You could probably work out from the name that Naxian on the Beach stands on the coast of the Cycladic island of Naxos. What’s only apparent on a closer inspection, however, is that this is an uncharacteristically low-key and laid-back luxury hotel; everything feels rough-hewn, handmade, and the farthest thing from formal, however lavish its comforts may be. The suites are spacious and warm, a pleasant serviced beach lies just outside, and the beachfront bar and restaurant features a menu by a Michelin-starred chef as well as a long list of cocktails and Greek wines.
With wicker light shades, binga baskets, walls of chestnut branches, bamboo beds, as well as an ochre colour scheme, the hotel wants to bind itself organically to the beach – it succeeds triumphantly.
